It’s been a year of firsts.
First time designing a tiny space, first time crying over DMV paperwork, first time parking a tiny house on wheels, first time leveling a trailer, first time buying a huge propane tank, first time digging a trench for graywater, first time building a compost pile in a garden, first time hauling hay in a wheelbarrow, first time pooping in a bucket, first time hearing the creaky sounds of Eucalyptus trees, first time falling asleep to the late-night moos of cows and hoots of different species of owls, first time paying off a house and owning it outright . . .

I could go on with this list of firsts, and in 2016, I expect it to grow longer. While I’ve learned a lot this year simply by doing (and making mistakes), I sense this is just the beginning, and as long as we live in this house, anything can happen.
I compiled some photos of our house from this year (you’ll also find more over a yearlong period in the gallery). A fair amount are from Instagram, so they’ll be new ones if you don’t follow me there. I’m excited to do a few projects next year, from fixing our floor to painting/pickling the interior walls and ceiling, so there’s more to come in 2016.

I’m currently in England for the holidays and have been away from the house for several weeks. It’s the second time we’ve been away from it for a long period of time, and it’s kind of like being away from a loved one. (I’d say it’s like being away from my child, but I don’t have kids.)
Happy New Year!
Cute house!

What a year! Enjoy the end of 2015 and welcome back home when you return after the holidays.
I already admired the Little House, but this recap series is great to envision the house in its natural setting.
A window above the kitchen sink is my favorite in any house. In California where sunups and sunsets are so gorgeous, it’s such a gift to do dishes in front of a window.
See you in 2016!

Hi Cheri,
It was great to have a “review” of your Tiny House. Your home is definitely well thought out, interesting and cozy. Looking forward to its evolution in 2016.
Happy New Year!

I really like those stools, have been looking for a bike seat/saddle type stool for some time. Do you mind sharing where you got those?
And your home is beautiful.

Hi — they are Varier Move stools. We have a normal size and a small size for me (I think it’s called the Move II), though I think the normal size would’ve worked, too. They’re pricey, but are sturdy, look good, and are compact enough for the space. However, they don’t work as all-day seating (not comfortable enough), and I wish we had more room for proper chairs. I actually sit/work on our sofa for much of the day!

Thank you! I’m actually looking for work first. I built a stand up desk for my at work desk. So I only sit for short periods when I’m on the phone or hand writing notes. If this works, I may get one for home too. I appreciate the information. 🙂
I will say, though our house is small it does not come close to a tiny house. I’m glad we have a reclining love seat. Helps after standing at work all day. I hope you find something that fits.
